You may be confused when you are following the Atkins diet and wondering what you can do when you find recipes. Though it's possible to take regular recipes and tweak them so that they are okay for your diet program, you may have better luck
finding Atkins recipes that are already done up for you. These are usually posted online by those who have been on the Atkins diet for a while, and they have come up with these Atkins recipes on their own. There are some things you should check out to make sure they are really okay for you.
When you look at the stats of any Atkins recipe, you have to realize that you want to look at more than just the carbohydrate count. If there is no statistical information, you should move on. Guessing won’t do you much good. When you do get stats, you have to decide the serving size in relation to carbs for that particular Atkins recipe. You could find one that has five carbs, and you may think is okay for you, but that won’t be the case if you are actually eating 4 or 5 servings. You must know and understand the serving size to decide if a certain recipe is right for you.
You also have to give Atkins recipes a once over to determine if all of the ingredients are ‘legal’ for you in your particular phase in the diet. What might work for someone who has been on the diet for a year won’t work if you have only been on it for two months. They are probably eating foods that are okay for them, but you may not have gotten that far. You may find an Atkins recipe that tells you straight out what level of the diet it is good for, and that can help tremendously. If it doesn’t seem to fit, file it away and try it when the time is right.
You also have to understand that just because something that says it's an Atkins recipe doesn’t mean it is. There are many great ones out there, but there are a few that are including things that you probably shouldn't be eating. Besides the above mentioned things to keep an eye out for, you should also think about the smaller things like artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols. These may or may not be okay, and if you have read through the diet book, you probably already know exactly what to look for. They may fit with the rest of the diet, but those small things can mean an Atkins recipe may not be right for you.
