Running and Jogging Workouts
If you jog or run to help burn body fat you need to make sure to stretch and warm up for a few minutes before you start. Take 5 to 10 minutes to stretch your quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves and do some jumping jacks or running in place to warm up. Not stetching and warming up enough may make you more likely to twist an ankle or pull a muscle while you're performing a running or jogging cardiovascular workout.
If you haven't exercised for a while you may want to start out by walking a mile or 2 every other day to get your body ready for running workouts. Walking itself is great exercise and not as hard on your joints, but it won't give you the boost in metabolism and the endorphin high you'll get from running or jogging. Once you feel comfortable running for your cardio workout you should try to run or jog for 30 to 45 minutes every other day. When you get to this point you can either opt to run for longer periods of time more often or try to get more distance out of your regular 30 to 45 minute runs.
One great way to help increase your metabolic to lose body fat through running is to do some short sprints during your workouts. Run or jog for a few minutes, then do an all out sprint for 20 to 30 seconds before you go back to your normal pace. Sprinting is a great way to get some high intensity cardio training into your workouts. Running uphill is another great way to get some more intensity into your cardio training. Do a few sprints and some uphill running during your running and jogging workouts and you will notice the difference in how much fat you lose.
Of course, you need to be careful with your joints if you run. Your ankles, knees, and lower back can take a beating when you run or jog. If you hurt any of these joints while running you should do some other form of cardio exercise while you recover. If you have chronic knee, lower back, or ankle pain you're better off doing cardio on an elliptical machine or walking.
Wear a good pair of running shoes when you run and always watch where you are running or jogging. Many people have twisted an ankle or pulled a calf muscle because they stepped on somthing they didn't see while running.
Once you get used to running or jogging you'll see a great improvement in your endurence and you'll start getting rid of that unwanted body fat.
